This tea is lovely. I was attracted to it by the bright yellow color, looks like liquid sunshine. The flavor is strong, especially as a decoction. Tastes great hot and iced. It really calms my stomach as well.
I started with a sample at the flower and garden show in Seattle. Before leaving the show I bought a small bag. A week or so later I caught a virus of some kind and the tea got me through. I also ordered a huge bag and now its a regular part of my day.
I had medical issues with my stomach and gut for over 20 years, I ended up having surgery due to complications. While recovering my body was craving something warm like tea so I drank some teas that I had bought from the grocery store. They tasted gross and didn't fulfill anything for me, then I tried Golden, I couldn't get enough. Just had my two week post op appt and the doctor couldn't believe how fast I had recovered. I had exceeded were I needed to be. Golden is a healing tea, it is magic. -Laura
Tried a couple different teas, did them mild. Flavor was definitely better than store bought tea. The blends were a good choice and flavorful. Great options for trying to cut back on coffee and get good flavor and feelings of comfort.
The reason why I'm hesitant to write this review is that I'm an incredibly selfish person. I want ALL of the Golden Tisane that Meli has to offer. I regularly buy her out of it. The blend is incredible.
It starts out with just a hint of sweetness. She says it's due to the licorice. The selfish me doesn't want her to change the label because it puts some people off. I heard some people in line at the market be deterred by licorice ("I hate the taste of licorice"). We had friends over for dinner last night who don't like licorice--they loved the tea. Anyway, if you're thinking black licorice or even anise, the hint of sweetness isn't anything like that. If you've had floral teas (red teas come to mind), it is nothing like that either. It's much more subtle and pleasant, and it quickly gives way to the predominant flavor which grows deeper and deeper as you get to the bottom of the pot.
Is there a word in the English language to describe the predominant flavor? The intoxicating combination of ginger and turmeric is ambrosial, luscious and exciting (almost alcoholic) without being too spicy. Add in the known health qualities of turmeric and ginger and you have the ultimate concoction which I feel good about drinking--my jam, my prescription, my tincture, my groove.
A word about the bottom of the pot. This tea has a quality that I've never seen before. The bottom is MORE flavorful. I've noticed that if I leave half a pot for an hour or so, the tea will form into a cloudier, denser version of itself. I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm addicted to this tea.
With this admission, I've come back full circle to my hesitation in writing this review. About three weeks ago, I was running low. Meli didn't show up to the market (the nerve!) and I couldn't find it anywhere. I went to the website and there was none to be found. I took a trip out to the address on the label; nothing there either. So, now you understand why I'm hesitant to write this positive review!!
